Because, let's face it- no one really cares about what Dustin and I are up to. (But just in case you do: I spend my days cooking, cleaning and playing with a one-year-old, and Dustin puts in long hours at work. See, you didn't really care about that, did you?)
Jenna and I were talking yesterday about how all these people manage to blog on an almost daily basis, and I thought, "Well, it's been about 4 months for me, so I guess I could take 10 minutes and give a little update". Actually, I think it would be nice to try and do it more regularly so that I can look back at it in the future. I am not a good record-keeper, so perhaps this could help me keep track of Jaxon's milestones.
Anyway, let's get down to it. The little guy is almost coming up on 16 months now, and he is enormous. Maybe it doesn't sounds like a nice thing to say, but the kid is a monster. He weighed in at about 30 lbs the other week. I thought he would have slimmed down a bit more by now, but he's still quite the chunkster.
Jaxon's best playmate is his dog, Rockett. They keep each other entertained a lot of the time, which is nice. She is so good with him, but every now and then gets a little too excited and bowls him right over.
This kid's main interests include dancing to music, looking at books, playing with balls, playing outside (especially at the farm and the gravel pit) and watching Baby Einstein videos. He also loves his Your Baby Can Read DVDs. To me, watching those is as interesting as watching paint dry, but he loves them. And he really likes using the flashcards that come with the program. He can recognize quite a few words now, including his name! If I can ever manage to be really sneaky and record him "reading" I will post the video.
He's also talking LOTS, which is really fun for us. He is even putting together two-word phrases now. His favourite phrase of the moment seems to be "No Rockett!". I can't tell you where he possibly picked that one up. ;) I like that he can use more words now, because I think it helps alleviate some of his frustration- he can express what he wants or needs more easily.
Anyway, that's all for now. I will try to update at least once more this week, and maybe it will eventually become a more regular occurance.
